From Traditional Printing to Digital Printing: 65% of SHEIN Products Use Digital Sublimation Technology

Recently, China's cross-border fast fashion platform SHEIN said that as of June 2024, more than 65% of SHEIN's products use digital sublimation technology.



Digital thermal transfer (sublimation printing) is a printing technology that print dye ink on sublimation paper and then transfers the pattern to fabric. The biggest feature of this technology is that it greatly saves water resources while improving efficiency.



SHEIN has been actively applying digital sublimation printing technology to replace traditional screen printing, and has applied digital thermal transfer technology to products since 2018. At present, through the application of this sublimation technology, SHEIN has saved a total of 1.13 million tons of water. In addition, as an important practice of SHEIN in the field of ESG, digital thermal transfer is deeply integrated with SHEIN's on-demand flexible supply chain, which continues to promote the sustainable development of the fashion industry.


SHEIN's on-demand production flexible supply chain model allows for flexible and agile adjustments to orders based on market and sales trends, thereby reducing production and inventory waste at the source, while digital digital sublimation printing can achieve smaller batch and flexible single-volume printing pattern production. The two production models and concepts are perfectly integrated, reducing resources and production waste at the source.



In addition to digital sublimation printing, SHEIN also uses digital cold transfer denim technology to develop and produce environmentally friendly denim fabrics. Cold transfer technology uses digital printing technology to achieve the denim effect that originally relied on multiple washes, thereby producing more customized and diversified denim style products.


It is reported that SHEIN's leading on-demand flexible supply chain model has reduced the brand's unsold inventory level to the low single digits, and will also enable high-quality development brand representatives such as SHEIN to continue to release green productivity.
